Qualitative Analysis + Coordination Chemistry

Inorganic chemistry in JEE has 4-5 questions of Qualitative Analysis+Coordination Chemistry every year.  Sometimes the number of questions from these goes even higher. Thus one must provide special attention to these topics. Special focus should be given to the complexes formed by the cations with the reagents water, carbon monoxide, cyanide ions, hydroxide ions etc.

For coordination chemistry ,NCERT + JD LEE is more then sufficient and you might be able to solve all the questions from this topic after some practice. There are many questions from isomerism here but if you have studied isomerism well in organic this is just cake walk.
  • NCERT(Highly Recommended)

(Class 12 Ncert Part 1)

NCERT is quite good for all topics of Coordination chemistry .But doesn't cover enough for CFT and you must therefore refer to JD Lee.
  • JD Lee(Highly Recommended)

(Indian version)               (original book)

Definitely the best book for Inorganic Chemistry as a whole also.Read CFT specially from the book .Very well written and study the diagrams as well for CFSE of various metal ions.

 Qualitative Analysis
This is one of the most diverse topic in inorganic chemistry .Needs lots of proper and Proper revision from time to time .To remember most of it make proper notes and maintain a copy of various reactions and study it from time to time.

  • The Best book for Qualitiative Analysis is Vogels Qualitative Chemistry .Read only those cations and anions from the book which are in JEE Syllabus. (Highly Recommended)

Practise lots of questions from this topic .Solve your institute material along with other books(below-mentioned) for Qualitative.

PROBLEM BOOKS

Practising Problems is very important in both of these topics and must not be ignored. For Coordination chemistry and Qualitative Analysis use Vishal Joshi and Solve previous questions of JEE.Give special emphasis on Subjective Questions of Qualitative Chemistry .Quite many questions are repeated from previous years in both these topics .
  • Vishal Joshi -(Highly Recommended ) This is undisputedly the best problem-book in Inorganic Chemistry and written by a person having decades of experience in teaching. This book is recommended for both Mains and Advanced. It has problems of all difficulty levels with solutions hence making it ideal for all the students.

  • 38 Year Chapter wise Solutions -(Highly Recommended) This book has past year papers of both Mains and Advanced sorted topic-wise and also has their solutions too. It is very important to test your level of understanding against the JEE questions and evaluate your extent of preparation from time to time.
