Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic is one of the most feared topic among students and usually becomes the rank deciding factor in the JEE exam .There are several cases from past year where the student neglected inorganic chemistry and it therefore lead to a poor rank .One must not leave Inorganic Chemistry for the last 2 months or so .One must study inorganic chemistry through out the 2 years regularly and make proper notes .Proper and Timely Revision is very important for Inorganic Chemistry .Inorganic Chemistry usually comprises 30-35% of the paper .I would suggest you to make a separate register for the reactions or properties of compounds that you forget or questions of inorganic that you are not able to solve and refer to that copy every now and then.Solving previous year questions are a must for Inorganic Chemistry.

Out of the approx 13-14 questions about 4-5 are from Coordination chemistry+Qualitative Analysis and therefore they have been covered specially in a different post .Now coming back to the remaining questions . Refer to JEE syllabus and cover the compounds and properties of compounds specially that are in the syllabus. This step is very important since there are high chances that you have not covered all the compounds mentioned in the syllabus at your coaching.

For the remaining topics one must read each and every line of the NCERT since most questions of JEE are from it ,but not all.Cover the Class notes in detail from time to time.J D Lee must be read for topics that are in JEE syllabus .It is not advisable to read whole of JD Lee,but read only those portion that are in syllabus .

For solving problems ,refer to Vishal Joshi, V K Jaiswal and the previous year Questions .Solve the NCERT exemplar as well for Inorganic .Apart from these sources, you can solve questions from your institute's study material too. Give Special emphasis to Paragraph Type Questions since they will help you recall the most of the reactions at one go.

THEORY
  • NCERT Chemistry (Highly Recommended)

(Class XI part 2)      (Class XII part 1)
Reading everyline of NCERT is a must for securing a good rank in JEE especially in Inorganic Chemistry. One must also solve the back questions of NCERT. Solve Exemplar along with this for more clarity of concepts on Inorganic .
  • J D Lee  (Highly Recommended)

(Original Book)       (Indian Version)
One can buy either versions of JD Lee .The Indian Version contains theory as well as good JEE relevant problems .J D Lee is by far the best book for Inorganic and it most suited for JEE.

  • Advance Inorganic Chemistry  (Recommended)

This book by Cotton And Wilkinson ,is one of the oldest books for Inorganic Chemistry .It is used by many students for JEE .The book is highly relevant for metallurgy and block chemistry .

PROBLEMS
  • Vishal Joshi (Highly Recommended)

The best book as far as problems are concerned .Highly relevant to the current JEE pattern(both Mains and Advanced) .Contains MCQ, Multicorrect,Paragraph Type,Numerical And Matrix Match. Also contains fact based questions that are quite relevant for JEE mains as well.
  • V K Jaiswal  (Highly Recommended)

Quite Similar book to V Joshi .One must solve atleast one of the above books fully.
  • NCERT Exemplar (Recommended )
Refer to the above Link for Exemplar Problems. The solutions for the same are provided by Arihant

Exemplar helps develop concepts and makes sure that you have not missed anything from the NCERT books as well.

ARCHIVE(PAST YEAR PAPERS)
  • Archive is a MUST-BUY book for every JEE Aspirant since it familiarizes you with the type of questions asked in JEE Advanced. I would personally recommend Arihant Publications for this purpose since it has problems from past 38 years sorted chapter-wise and also provides with the solutions to each problem.

    1. No I didnt and neither would I recommend because it has a lot of theory and it is likely that you will miss the important points while trying to remember the trivial ones. However you can practise questions from it especially of qualitative analysis(paragraph type)

    1. Yes you can go for it. Though NCERT should be your first priority before doing any other book for inorganic.

  9. I still remember that I used to study Inorganic Chemistry and it was very difficult one from the rest of the subjects. But I used to wear good dresses from Voguish Vibe as it gives me good feelings and that is why I was able to keep myself calm and undepressed.
