Coordinate Geometry

This is one of the easiest and most scoring topic of JEE . Any mistake made in this area costs you a lot since your competitors will most likely ace this area .Speed and Accuracy are very important specially in this area .Most toppers do not lose marks in this area .

There are  usually about 6-7 questions from these topics in JEE . There are 6 main topics in coordinate geometry .Solve many questions from these topics .Most of JEE Questions are based of Tangents and Normals ,thus it is essential that you remember all the formulas of this topic.Study the property of  various conics like refection properties etc .Give special emphasis to Locus Problems as well. In this topic Conic Sections is the most important topic and 80% questions from this topic are from Conic Sections.

Remember parametric form of each curve , equations of chord, equation of tangent and its point of contact , equation of normal, equation of director circle etc i.e. all the formulae of this topic should be learnt by heart since there is not much time in deriving them in the exam since the questions of these topics are lengthy.

BOOKS
  • Skills in Mathematics-Coordinate Geometry (Highly Recommended)

This is the best book for coordinate Geometry and must be solved completely . Parabola,Ellipse,Hyperbola in this book are highly relevant for JEE .Read all the Solved problems in the book .They will help you build approaches on high to solve a problem especially of locus .
  • Cengage Series for Coordinate Geometry-(Highly Recommended)

Contains detailed theory along with JEE relevant questions
  • SL Loney -(Recommended)

One of the oldest books for Coordinate Geometry . Contains proper theory and also various formulas and some non-trivial results which may not be known to you but can be used directly in problems .

GENERAL MATHS BOOKS
The below-mentioned books are books of maths having Coordinate Geometry  covered in a decent manner.
  • Vikas Gupta and Pankaj Joshi is the best book for REVISION purposes.
  • (Highly Recommended)

This book is best for revision purpose, The most important part of JEE preparation is revision of the concepts you have already learnt. For this purpose you need a book which has around 50 good questions from each chapter and the problems should cover almost all the important concepts. Hence this book is ideal for this purpose.
  • A Das Gupta is an old Classic book. It mainly has problems from each chapter of mathematics some of which have been excluded from the current syllabus. Many of the problems are solved illustrating the ideas used to solve problems. It also contains chapter-wise tests so that you know your level of preparation in that chapter.
  • (Recommended)

ARCHIVE
  • Previous Year's Papers of JEE Advanced . It would also help you to know where you stand and what type of questions are generally asked in the exam and whether your preparation is enough or not. This book is with solutions and appropriate for both JEE Main and Advanced.
  • (Highly Recommended)

BEWARE:- Usually, the questions posed to the students at their coaching or at other Test Series are quite difficult and lengthy. Hence, the students often tend to lose their confidence in this topic and tend to overdo it. You should realize that this is a topic in which lengthy and time-consuming questions can be made easily hence you are asked difficult questions in various test series. But JEE avoids such questions, it usually gives simple questions which are formula-based from this topic. So to know whether your preparation is enough, you should solve past year papers and then judge your preparation level.
