Calculus

This topic is the most important topic in maths and you can expect 40% weightage given to this topic itself. Hence it is very important to focus a lot on this topic. Also some of the questions asked in JEE Advanced on this topic in the recent years are quite difficult and having ingenius solutions hence you should solve even the most difficult problems of this topic within the JEE syllabus.

The most important chapter of this topic is 'Definite Integration' and you can expect 3-4 questions from this topic every year. Chapters 'Functions', 'Limits, Continuity and Differentiability','Application of Derivatives' are also very important. The chapters 'Indefinite Integration', 'Area', 'Differential Equations' are not that important chapters and should be less focussed upon.

The correct strategy of excelling in this topic is to keep in mind the various techniques/tricks used while solving questions and when you learn a new trick think that how it can be applied to other questions of similar type. Also you should solve a lot of problems in this topic to make it your strength and once you cannot solve a problem do look-up for its solution so that you can get to learn an important concept which was maybe missed while learning the concepts.

There are two categories of books available in this topic, one in which there are only problems and the other in which there are both concept and problems.

PROBLEMS ONLY
  • The best book and a must-buy for all the top JEE aspirants is Sameer Bansal.
  • (Highly Recommended)

(Problems)                  (Solutions)
This book is for those who feel confident in the techniques used for solving questions and now wish to solve questions of high difficulty level. The problems of this book are at the maximum level of difficulty JEE can ask. This book is most useful if you have its solutions also so that you can look for the solutions to the questions you couldn't solve.

BOTH CONCEPT AND PROBLEMS
  • The best books for this category is Amit M Agarwal's books on 'Differential Calculus' and 'Integral Calculus'.
  • (Highly Recommended)

(Differential)              (Integral Calculus)
If you feel that you need to strengthen your concepts before moving on to problems or if you feel that you need to solve problems in increasing level of difficulty then this is the best book. These books provide problems concept-wise in various difficulty levels hence it is best for beginners. There are sufficient number of solved problems too to guide you through the concept.

ARCHIVE
  • In the recent years JEE has asked quite innovative and difficult questions of Calculus. Hence Previous Year's Papers of JEE Advanced are a gem. It would also help you to know where you stand and what type of questions are generally asked in the exam. This book is with solutions and appropriate for both JEE Main and Advanced.
  • (Highly Recommended)

GENERAL MATHS BOOKS
The below-mentioned books are books of maths having Calculus covered in a decent manner.
  • Vikas Gupta and Pankaj Joshi is the best book for revision purposes.
  • (Highly Recommended)

This book is best for revision purpose, The most important part of JEE preparation is revision of the concepts you have already learnt. For this purpose you need a book which has around 50 good questions from each chapter and the problems should cover almost all the important concepts. Hence this book is ideal for this purpose.
  • A Das Gupta is an old Classic book. It mainly has problems from each chapter of mathematics some of which have been excluded from the current syllabus. Many of the problems are solved illustrating the ideas used to solve problems. It also contains chapter-wise tests so that you know your level of preparation in that chapter.

My final word of advice for strengthening this topic would be to keep in mind all the concepts which you use to solve problems while solving a new problem. You should practice a lot in this topic since it is a very important topic.

    1. Don't ask such questions to them. If you are so willing to know go to IIT-Bombay and ask him there. I hope Adiya and Heisenberg would agree with me.
